The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has scheduled several road closures on the AP-7 motorway to improve energy efficiency through intelligent lighting management in the Pilar de la Horadada tunnel (Alicante), which is located between kilometres 774 and 770 on the Crevillente-Cartagena section.
The entire project has a €3.5 million budget and is sponsored by European Next Generation funds as part of the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan (PRTR).
According to a statement from the Ministry, the AP-7 roadway will be totally blocked towards Alicante beginning Monday morning due to these repairs and to safeguard the safety of workers and road users.
In addition, beginning at 7:00 a.m. on September 22nd, the AP-7 motorway will be totally closed in the direction of Cartagena. Both closures are set to end on September 23rd at 6:00 p.m.
To “ensure the flow of traffic” during these disruptions, a properly signed alternative route will be established along the N-332 highway, which runs parallel to the motorway in the affected section, from the San Pedro del Pinatar/Pilar de la Horadada interchange (AP-7 kilometre 774) to the Pilar de la Horadada interchange (AP-7 kilometre 770).
During this time, work will be done to install the tunnel’s control and safety systems, which requires the tunnel to be completely closed.
